The Assisted Living Project is being implemented by Anjali in collaboration with the Department of Women & Child and Social Welfare and Department of Health & Family Welfare with the purpose of running a short-stay home – PRATYAY, for about 100 residents with psychosocial disabilities, who are now cured and declared fit for discharge in Kolkata Pavlov Hospital and Lumbini Park Mental Hospital. These persons have either been abandoned by their families or do not have a home to return back, and hence have been languishing in the hospital for many years after their recovery. During their stay in this home, they will be provided with skills training to facilitate their process of employment and independent living with a year.

This initiative not only gives them a chance to enjoy the fervour of festivity and enjoyment after being confined within the hospital for years, but also facilitates the process of their social inclusion post recovery, wherein they will be able to socialize with others sans discrimination. A sense of dignity and self-worth will develop, which will, down the line, give them the confidence to opt of independent living.
